Alongside with the primary production, KrÄsainie LÄ“jumi JSC is also specializing in the development, implementation and introduction of modern magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) technologies and equipment for transportation and processing of non-ferrous metals and alloys. The MHD treatment methods of molten metals, which are being worked out by KrÄsainie LÄ“jumi JSC, enable contactless transportation (transfer) of molten metals without using any mechanical devices, mixing a melt in furnaces, continuous or dosed discharge of metal out of furnaces into any technological unit, intensified mixing of alloying constituents into a melt, homogenization (diffusion annealing) of the melt content in the whole volume of a furnace and so on and so forth.
On the basis of the scientific and technical studies, which were conducted in cooperation with the Institute of Physics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, and the multiyear experience in manufacture and operation of MHD equipment for various applications at the Special Design Office of Magnetohydrodynamics (SDO MHD), KrÄsainie LÄ“jumi JSChas recently organized production and can now offer industrial versions of MHD mixers and MHD discharge devices for aluminium furnaces of the capacity of 5 to 150 tonnes to any enterprises and organizations concerned.
The aforesaid MHD equipment received approval and is now successfully operated on various enterprises in Russia, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Thailand, and other countries.
The use of MHD equipment in aluminium and its alloys production technologies increases the output of furnaces by 15-50%,ensures homogeneity of the chemical content of a melt by +/-5%, equalizes temperature distribution within the whole volume of a furnace by +/-5-10 degrees, reduces the content of hydrogen and oxides in the produced ingots, and also reduces waste of metal by 15-25% and slag quantity on the furnace walls.
